In this video, IM Kostya Kavutskiy will show you some of the common ideas and strategies that you should looking for when playing positions with pawn chains. What is a pawn chain? Pawn chains are usually a collection of two or more pawns that are connected and blocked by an enemy pawn chain. Typical Ideas and strategies in regards to pawn chains: 1. Attacking the points: The point of a pawn chain is basically the most advanced pawn. One of the key strategies when fighting against a pawn chain is to attack the point with a pawn break (= pawn lever). What is a blocked position? A blocked position (e.g. in the center) usually means, that you are more able to attack on the wing or the sides of the board. This is because the center is blocked, the position is not as dynamic and the pieces are not as open to potential tactics. This means that you have more time to attack on the wing. Compare this to a position where the central Pawns have been traded. It can be very risky to attack on the wing because the center is going to be open and that shows a lot of potential for tactics in the position. A very useful tool is to look at the direction of the pawn chain and where it is pointing to (e.g. king side/ queen side). 2. Attacking the base of the pawn chain: The base has no pawns backing it up, so if you attack the base and this pawn is taken or traded off, the rest of the pawn chain becomes weaker. If you are not able to attack the base of the pawn chain, you can always try to create a new base with a timely pawn break. The pawn is then the key attacker in the position. 📘 The pgn to this video can be downloaded on our website! ✏️ Don't miss to solve the provided exercises for this video on our website! — ⭐️ Social Media Links: Twitter:   / chessfactor   Facebook:   / chessfactorofficial   Lichess: https://lichess.org/@/chessfactor Twitch:   / chessfactor   — ♛ Chess Set Links: ➡️ Green chess set: https://www.bestchesssetever.com/coll... ➡️ Wooden chess set: https://www.chessware.de/Schachfigure... — #Chess #Chessfactor #ChessfactorIntermediate #PawnChains
