Attention residents! Fake Sedapal workers are once again targeting homes, attempting to steal under the guise of checking water meters or performing other services. Yesterday afternoon, two men wearing orange vests and blue hard hats entered an elderly woman's home claiming they were repairing her drain. However, a third person entered unnoticed and stole her belongings. The incident occurred in the Palmeras de Oquendo sector of Callao, at the home of a 77-year-old woman, who was deeply distressed, as the thieves reportedly stole approximately 30,000 soles. THIS IS HOW THE EVENTS UNFOLDED The victim's neighbor explained that these men passed by the house before the woman entered. When she appeared, the fake workers approached her and identified themselves as Sedapal employees, saying they were cleaning the drains. They asked her for a bucket of water, which she gave them. Then they suggested using some products to prevent rats from infesting her drain, to which she agreed. This man and another entered and left the door ajar, allowing a third accomplice to enter. While the first two talked to the elderly woman to distract her, the third man ransacked her room. After a few minutes, the third man left first, and the others followed. SEDAPAL ISSUES WARNINGS TO USERS Given the presence of unscrupulous individuals using the company's name to commit crimes, Sedapal issued recommendations to users to prevent theft. First, it emphasized that home inspections are carried out on a scheduled basis, with prior notification. Furthermore, personnel must be properly identified with an institutional photo ID, uniform, and visible company logos, as well as credentials and national ID. Sedapal also warned that it does not charge for home inspections or technical visits.
