I've spent much of my life trying to understand the complicated relationship between people and predators. But few places in the world bring that reality into sharper focus than the village of Thakurdwara, Nepal. Bordering the wild landscapes of Nepal's lowland jungles, the people here live alongside some of the planet's most formidable animals. Tigers kill dozens of people in this region every year. Elephants raid crops and destroy homes. Rhinos can be unpredictable and dangerous. Venomous snakes are a constant threat. But one of the most persistent and chaotic conflicts comes from an animal many people least expect... the leopard. Leopards regularly slip into villages under the cover of darkness, hunting goats, dogs, and other easy prey. Occasionally, people are attacked. But one of the most intense forms of conflict is something locals know all too well: leopard mobbings. When a leopard is spotted inside the village, panic spreads quickly. Hundreds of people can pour into the streets, surrounding the cat in an attempt to drive it back into the jungle. The noise, confusion, and sheer chaos often leave the leopard with nowhere to go. Trapped and terrified, the animal may lash out defensively, injuring multiple people as it desperately tries to escape. In this episode of Endless Venture, I investigate the realities of living on the front lines of human-wildlife conflict. We hear firsthand accounts from local people, witness the challenges they face every day, and find ourselves caught in the middle of a leopard mobbing that nearly turns us into victims ourselves. This isn't a story of villains and heroes. It's a story about survival—both human and wild—and the difficult balance of sharing space with some of the world's most powerful predators. Join us as we venture into the heart of Nepal to uncover the truth behind one of conservation's greatest challenges: learning to coexist with wildlife.
