We'll be sharing the know-how of Sato Mama, also known as Sato Ryoko (Hama Gakuen Advisor). Three of her children were accepted into Nada Junior High School, and her daughter was accepted into Rakunan Junior High School, and all of her children went on to study at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Science, Department III. This time, we received answers to the following questions. --------------- I have a daughter who is currently in kindergarten. She attends Kumon, and is nearing the end of Japanese BII and Math B. She's considering taking the junior high school entrance exam and was thinking of sending her to a cram school in the fourth grade of elementary school, but I've heard that it would be better to get her started on a cram school a little earlier, so that she can get a head start in the fourth grade. So, I'm thinking about having her finish up to F in Japanese and Math at Kumon by the second grade of elementary school, or at the latest, by the middle of the third grade, and then send her to a cram school in the third grade. Is this the right approach? Would it be better to send her to a school like SAPIX earlier, in the first or second grade? Also, since Kumon only teaches calculations, would it be better for her to work on problem sets that train thinking skills and geometry problems before enrolling? If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
