The video demonstrates the peripheral venous puncture technique in minute detail, using aseptic techniques from the removal of jewelry and handwashing as recommended by ANVISA (ANVISA 2020 handwashing guidelines and nursing handwashing procedures) in a didactic and practical way. It includes a drawing of handwashing techniques, preparing materials to be carried on a tray to the patient's bedside (materials for venous puncture), confirming data for secure patient identification (known as the famous "13 RIGHTS"), communicating assertively with the patient to explain the procedure, assessing the venous network and veins for venous puncture, performing antisepsis of the puncture site, the venous puncture technique with a jelco (peripheral venous catheter over a needle) or scalp vein needle, securing the device, and handling sharps and their proper disposal. Regarding the technique, we teach the preparation of the devices (multi-way infusion set and macrodrip infusion set) in relation to filling their extension with 0.9% saline solution to avoid introducing air into the patient's vein, which can lead to a situation of gas embolism. Throughout the material, there is a didactic situation where we associate practice with theory, breaking down the entire situation and explaining the correct way to perform medication calculation and drip rate calculation to meet what the medical prescription requires.
