Heated blanket repair. Electric throw not working, can they be repaired?

Electric blankets, or heated throws, if you prefer, are becoming very popular. In these times of ever increasing energy charges, these blankets can keep you warm without having to heat a whole house. But can they be fixed if they go wrong? I have 2 with different faults to have a look at. Please note, I do this for pleasure and knowledge, this is not in any way meant to be a tutorial.
