Kai40Cal: “Growing up in Hartford—it’s really like any other hood. You know, running around with ya homies outside. A lot of us was into sports and shit like dat when we was younger too, but you know it’s the hood—we just adapt to our environment. As kids, it was fun for the most part.” ⸻ Q: What motivates you to keep going? Kai40Cal: “My kids. And all the trials and tribulations I’ve been through. Being broke, gettin’ the bag, goin’ back broke, losing homies—you name it, for real. I learned to stop dwelling on shit. Life gon’ keep rolling. You really ain’t got no choice but to use it as fuel to go harder.” ⸻ Q: If you had one wish, what would it be? Kai40Cal: “I’d bring my bruddas back. All of ’em.” ⸻ Q: What does music mean to you? Kai40Cal: “Music really my therapy, for real. I can listen to any kind of music depending on what mood I’m in. It’s not a day go by that I don’t listen to music or beats. Since I was a kid, I had an ear for it—like 5 years old tryna be like 50 Cent, lol. But yeah, it’s therapeutic to me. That’s one of the main reasons I keep rapping.”
