Trimetrical Hub by John Psathas

As the final movement of a three-movement concerto, the up-tempo Trimetrical Hub draws heavily on Southern European and North African dance music, calling for a high level of virtuosity from its performer. Originally part of John Psathas’s Koolish Zein, a concerto written for Michael Burritt, this arrangement of Trimetrical Hub is for solo marimba and vibraphone with fixed audio. This fixed audio replicates the percussion quartet from the original concerto. John Psathas describes the work, “Trimetrical Hub (an anagram of Michael Burritt) begins in a Macedonian dance rhythm of 17/8 (4+6+7) and eventually transforms into a high-spirited groove inspired by a 6/8 Moroccan wedding dance.” PERFORMED BY: Jacob Wrobel MALLETS USED: Robert Van Sice Keyboard M113, M114 x2, M115 Balter Pro Vibe Series 23B INSTRUMENTS USED: Adams Alpha Series 5.0 Octave Marimba Adams Alpha Series Vibraphone
