Problème électrique, Trampoline déchiré, visite de Long Island en voiture et en kayak. Bahamas
#149 Bahamas, Part 4 ✍️March 18, 2022, pierced by the first rays of morning sunlight, the mass of auroral clouds has little chance of lasting. Not a sign of pollution, the sky is a remarkable blue. It reminds us of winter days in the Southern Hemisphere in New Caledonia. Comfortably settled in our kayaks, we enter Hoosie Harbour. A sort of lake, bordering the ocean and branching off into mangrove channels. A boat ramp, a fishing pier, and we are still alone. Venturing a little further, we reach the meeting point between Long Island and Galliot Cay, a resort island. Under the concrete culvert that connects them, a narrow passage leads to a gentle slope where we have a blast! Our inquisitive instincts led us through some interesting caverns before taking us to Santa Maria Point and its panoramic view of Calabash Bay. Need I say more? This place is paradise! You know those postcards or travel magazine photos that make you dream? Those dreamy images of magnetic lagoons bordered by impossibly white beaches? You see them now? Well, here we are! We're right in the middle of it! This incredible scenery isn't an excuse to neglect our maintenance and upkeep duties. So, when the mood strikes, it's a thorough cleaning and minor repairs. My captain has found the problem that recently caused starting difficulties with the port engine: verdigris. I think I've mentioned it before; it's a real plague on board. It clings to all the electrical cables, oxidizing every connection and viciously hindering their proper functioning. We weren't going to miss the opportunity to see the island's curiosities on land. Stretching 130 kilometers long, bisected by the Tropic of Cancer, and 6 kilometers wide, Long Island, according to the last census, was home to just over three thousand inhabitants and twelve churches, mostly Anglican. One of them, St. Joseph's Church, hides the Shrimp Hole behind its ruins! A shrimp hole, nothing exceptional, you might say! Think again! At the end of a winding path, concealed between the vegetation and the limestone walls of a crevice, the opalescent light, imbued with a mystical glow, bathes the emerald cave in light. And there, hundreds of tiny red shrimp activate their pairs of legs, moving gracefully between the sunbeams of sunlight in this pool of cool water. This hole isn't the only one. Less than 30 kilometers further south lies Dean's Blue Hole, the second deepest blue hole in the world, at 202 meters. It's here that the Vertical Blue freediving competition takes place every year. And how can I put it, without repeating myself? The site is spectacular! Three-quarters surrounded by an amphitheater of natural rock, this marvel allows access to the remaining quarter through a lagoon, a celestial boundary. From one end of the island to the other, the exclamations of: Wow! Ha! So beautiful! Magnificent! Fabulous! are constant. We even find charm in the very ruined Adderley Plantation! We would love to see everything in the Bahamas, as everything is so exceptional, but we have to face the facts: our three-month visa will be far too short. So, we don't push it; when there's too much northerly wind in the east, there's no way we're going to get tossed around to one island instead of another. Who knows! Cat Island might be the occasion for a future trip. In the meantime, we're turning 90 degrees, heading for New Providence, sails wing-and-wing. With caution and care, my captain is following the recommended route to enter Crab Cay Bay. We have 70 centimeters of water under our keels… To join us on Patreon, click here: http://www.patreon.com/catamaranblack...
