Where The River Runs

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence, our community also pauses to remember a much different moment. Nearly one year ago, the Guadalupe River flood changed countless lives and left 119 families grieving the loss of loved ones. In moments like these, people often ask the same question: Where is God when the waters rise? This Sunday, we'll look at Ezekiel 47, where the prophet sees a river flowing from the throne of God into the most barren and lifeless places imaginable. Wherever that river goes, life follows. Dead waters become fresh. Barren land begins to flourish. Trees grow whose leaves bring healing. That river still flows today. It flowed through the founding of a nation that recognized its need for a Creator. It flowed through the courage and sacrifice of those who helped shape its future. And it flowed through the hands and hearts of the men and women who served our community in the aftermath of tragedy. Together, we'll remember those we lost, honor those who stepped forward to help, celebrate the healing that has taken place, and be reminded that God's presence has never left us. The flood does not have the final word. The river of God does.
