【岩屋山古墳】精緻な横穴式石室を持つ終末期古墳
This is the Archaeology Channel. This video explains Iwayayama Kofun. Iwayayama Kofun is located approximately 600 meters east of Kengyoshizuka Kofun. Although the western side of the mound has collapsed significantly, it is thought to be a two-tiered square tumulus, measuring approximately 40 meters on a side and 12 meters in height. However, while there is no disagreement that the lower tier is square, it has also been suggested that the upper tier may be octagonal. The most distinctive feature of Iwayayama Kofun is its intricately constructed horizontal-hole stone chamber. It is 17.8 meters long, with an antechamber measuring 4.9 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, and 3 meters high, and an entrance passage measuring approximately 13 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 2 meters high. The Iwayayama Tomb's cave-in-the-wall stone chamber is found in a number of similar tombs, including the Otani Tomb in Kashihara City and the Minezuka Tomb in Tenri City. Shiraishi Taiichiro has named these chambers the Iwayayama style, pointing out that they represent a representative form of cave-in-the-wall stone chamber from the late Kofun period. Among them, the chamber of Munesaka No. 1 Tomb in Sakurai City is the same size and shape as the Iwayayama Tomb, and is believed to have been constructed based on the same blueprints, despite differences in the precision of the stonework. Let's take a look inside. The stone used is quartz diorite, commonly known as Asuka stone, and it is a beautiful stone chamber constructed using cut stone. The main chamber is two-tiered, with the back walls on both the upper and lower tiers made of a single stone. It is believed to have been built around the first half of the 7th century, and possible burials include Empress Saimei and Princess Kibihime.
