SFV: Ryu Tips - Beginner Combos

Want to learn how to play Ryu but don't know where to start? Confused by all the combo videos and waffle? Want to learn how to KARATE good? Well this is the tutorial for you! In this video I cover what I consider to be Ryu's core beginner combos to learn before going on to learn the more complex hit-confirms and link combos. I also cover a primer to intermediate combos, jump-ins, punishing and anti-airs! :) SHORTCUTS The DP or Dragon Punch input (f d df) used for Shoryuken has two shortcuts; df d df and f df f. A good tip is to use f d df f (f QCF) as it catches 2 inputs (f d df & f df f). The df d df shortcut allows you to perform SRK from crouching! The other shortcut you will use as a Ryu player is db d df f (or db QCF) for HCF (Jodan Sokutou Geri AKA Donkey Kick). INPUT PRIORITIES Speaking of shortcuts certain inputs have priorities over others. As previously mentioned f QCF+P will result in a SRK and not Hadouken. Whereas df d df f+P (df QCF+P) will result in a Hadouken and not SRK so careful not to move the stick/pad too far! So Ryu got a new combo tool with s.MP to d+HP as part of a target combo allowing for special cancels however this is kinda awkward and adds for some confusion for beginners. df+HP will not get the d+HP input you want in the target combo so you have to do MP d+HP df d df+HP to cancel into SRK. However you can do db+HP to get the d+HP input for EX Jodan. It might just be easier to forget it and just use c.HP, it's only 1 frame slower than s.MP and damage difference isn't much for short combos and longer combos actually reduces the damage more than a simple c.HP!
