"Jerusalem" - Unofficial Anthem of England [+Lyrics]
Upon hearing the orchestral version for the first time, King George V said that he preferred that Jerusalem replace God Save the King as the national anthem. Jerusalem‘s rousing lyrics, opening with the famous line ‘And did those feet in ancient time‘, were written by the poet William Blake in around 1808. Blake's poem tells the legend of Jesus visiting England, in particular Glastonbury, with relative Joseph of Arimatheia. With music written by Hubert Parry in 1916, Jerusalem is considered to be England's most popular patriotic song, and there have been multiple calls over time for it to be given official status. This specific version was recorded at the Last night of the Proms 2012, arranged by the late Jiri Belohlavek. Vandistan community discord server: / discord
