Sinaloa PRI congresswoman Paola Gárate responded to accusations circulating on social media and in some news outlets after she reported threats against her and requested protection from the federal government. The legislator asserted that this is a smear campaign and a form of revictimization stemming from her criticism of the insecurity in the state. Gárate confirmed that she is the godmother of a minor mentioned in recent publications, but denied any connection to individuals linked to organized crime and rejected any accusations against her. She stated that, after more than 20 years in public service, there is no investigation, complaint, or legal process involving her in illicit activities. The congresswoman maintained that she is willing to be investigated and audited, but demanded that concrete evidence be presented if there are any allegations.
