But isn't that just unbelievable? Only large dolphins can last that long underwater, and only whales can last longer! Croatian Budimir Šobat set his record in 2018 in the presence of experts from the Guinness Book of World Records. Do you think he's the only one? Spanish freediver Alex Sigura stayed underwater without air for 24 minutes and 11 seconds… "A person can live about 40 days without food, 5-7 days without water, and a few minutes without air." We've been hearing this since childhood. However, it's not all that clear-cut. There are people who can go much longer without food and water; we've already talked about them in our videos. And now we're learning a lot about breathing. Of course, 24 minutes is an extreme figure. But what if we told you that most people on the planet breathe completely incorrectly. And this is precisely what leads to illness and a short life. Surprised? And yet they don't tell you anything about the foundation of life—breathing. Or rather, they do, but it would be better if they didn't. After all, what do we constantly hear: breathe deeply! And we obediently breathe, believing it will bring us health. But here's the paradox. Intense, deep breathing can lead to hyperventilation: too much oxygen enters the lungs, and carbon dioxide in the blood becomes too low. But the less CO2 in the blood, the stronger the bond between hemoglobin and oxygen, and the less oxygen reaches the cells. This results in a paradoxical situation: a person chokes on oxygen, while brain tissue suffers from a lack of it (hypoxia). This manifests itself as dizziness, even loss of consciousness. Holding your breath, however, leads to a buildup of carbon dioxide, which leads to vasodilation and improved gas exchange in the lungs. Just don't rush into holding your breath; here, more than anywhere else, you need to know when to stop. A healthy adult takes an average of fifteen to twenty breaths per minute. Yogis, however, increase this number to three to six. They believe that the less often a person breathes, the longer they live. They believe that we are allotted a certain number of inhalations and exhalations in life. And with proper breathing, 200 years is not the limit. Vedic sources indicate that breathing can control the energy of the entire body.
