Remember the CLK? The new CLE is exactly that Mercedes concept: a coupé or cabriolet designed to appeal to customers straddling the D and E segments, with features borrowed from the C-Class and the E-Class. What I can say with certainty, after driving both body styles, is that the CLE marks a significant step forward in terms of build quality compared to the C-Class and comes close, especially in the versions with electronically controlled shock absorbers, to the comfort of the E-Class. All this without betraying the desire for technology that is typical of the new Mercedes direction, given the presence of the third version of MBUX with its dual dashboard screens (the vertical central one - slightly inclined and facing the driver - and the dashboard) plus a generously sized head-up display projecting onto the windshield. The interior is more refined and spacious than before, thanks to an increase in wheelbase to 285 cm and a choice of engines ranging from 197 to 381 hp, including the mild hybrid diesel at the base of the range, also available with all-wheel drive, just like the higher-powered models. Also noteworthy is the 450 variant powered by the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder in-line (longitudinal) gasoline engine producing 381 hp and 500 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. The performance of the diesel engine, a best-seller in Italy alongside the previous C-Class Cabrio and E-Class Cabrio, is also noteworthy. Thanks to a 17 kW electric boost and 440 Nm of torque, it reaches a top speed of 234 km/h, with a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds and fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km. More comfortable than the C-Class, super aerodynamic and respectful of passengers, the new CLE Cabrio will soon be available in AMG variants, starting with the 53 with 449 hp...
