HOW RHYTHM WORKS #1 - The Different Flamenco Compases: A Visual Guide (NO MUSIC THEORY)
If you enjoy flamencoMAPS, please consider supporting our work on Patreon: / flamencomaps In this video, Guillermo Guillén introduces a unique and engaging approach to learning flamenco rhythm: using LEGO bricks. Flamenco music and dance are deeply rooted in rhythm, or compás. Understanding and feeling the compás is fundamental for any flamenco musician or dancer. However, many beginners struggle to grasp the intricacies of this rhythmic foundation. The compás serves as the heartbeat of the music, providing a framework for all other elements, including singing, dancing, and instrumental playing. A deep understanding of the compás allows musicians and dancers to connect more authentically with the flamenco tradition and express their creativity with greater precision. In music, the rhythm has different levels, different layers. Today we talk about the main level: Pulsation and Cycles. The pulsation level, often referred to as the beat level, is the most basic element of rhythm. It's the underlying pulse that we perceive when listening to music. In flamenco, the pulsation is typically expressed in beats per minute (BPM), indicating the tempo of the music. The cycle level, also known as the compás level, is where the rhythmic patterns and structures of flamenco come into play. A compás is a repeating cycle of beats, often consisting of a specific number of beats grouped together. Flamenco features a variety of compases, each with its own unique rhythmic characteristics and patterns. It is important to understand and visualize the rhythm, and then practice it a lot in order to FEEL IT. If we understood from the start a few things about RHYTHM in general, we would *SAVE A LOT OF TIME* in our practice! #flamencomaps #flamencolessons #flamencocompas #flamenco #rhythm #compás #flamencoguitar #flamencodance #flamencoworkshop ____________________ FREE eBOOK to DOWNLOAD: "Flamenco, from Pratice to Art: Find your Way, Enjoy the Journey" on https://flamencomaps.com/ ____________________ Intro: 00:00 1· Practice Rhythm: 01:00 2· Pulsation: 02:15 3· Cycles: 03:45 4· Different Cycles: 06:29 Compás de Tango: 06:51 Compás de Fandango de Huelva: 07:06 Compás de 12 Beats: 07:24 Compás de Soleá: 07:49 Compás de Guajira: 08:15 Compás de Siguiriya: 08:41 Other Cycles: 09:22 5· Practice: 09:40 Conclusion: 10:23 Vámonos: 10:50 ____________________ flamencoMAPS on social media: Facebook: flamencomaps Instagram: @flamencomaps ____________________ We can spend years learning choreographies, steps, letras, or falsetas by heart and still miss the fundamentals of how it REALLY works.
