Blockbusters (1992) - FULL EPISODE
So who remembers Blockbusters? It was a general knowledge quiz for students to test the theory that two heads are better than one, and if you're of a certain vintage, you're bound to remember it coming on after CITV every evening (or so it seemed). This particular edition is dated 1992, but the recording is from a Challenge repeat, so adjust your ads and promos expectations accordingly. Contestants are from Chichester High School, Prestatyn High School, and Handsworth Grammar in Birmingham. And, yes, someone does ask for a P. Banger of a theme tune, isn't it? It was composed by Ed Welch, who also did Knightmare, which is another of my all-time favourites. But here's something that's been in the back of my mind for years: the very beginning of this one (the drum beat) always reminded me of Take On Me by A-Ha, and then the first five or six notes of the main riff of each mirrors the rhythm of the other perfectly. Blockbusters came first. I don't think I'm insinuating anything, but I bet you could make a fantastic mash-up of the two. Many thanks to @David315842 for sending me this tape.
