Automatic doors use sensors to shine near-infrared light onto a specific area, detecting the amount of reflected infrared light when a person enters and opening the door. Optex has been conducting extensive research using sensing technology since the development stage to accurately identify people and objects. We conduct experiments in harsh, real-world environments and work to reduce false alarms by interpreting subtle differences in waveforms. We are also developing technology that combines image recognition to solve the issue of automatic doors opening every time a person passes through them. This reduces the number of times the doors open and contributes to energy savings. In North America, swing-style automatic doors are widely used, so we continue to develop sensors that are compatible with various door shapes. We are also developing security sensors that perform reliably even in bad weather and darkness. Our sensing technology is used not only in automatic doors but also in water quality testing. Optex was founded in 1979. The founder, who had previously worked for a security equipment manufacturer, launched the venture. In 1980, we released the world's first automatic door sensor using far-infrared light. In 1996, Optex developed outdoor security sensors and has expanded globally. In 2014 and 2020, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry selected the company as one of its Top 100 Global Niche Companies. As a global niche leader, Optex is creating its third and fourth businesses.
