The Spectrum Sunstone Mine is a privately owned, 20-acre patented mining claim located approximately 27 miles northeast of Plush. According to the mine, it was once owned by Tiffany & Co. and became Oregon’s first commercially operated Oregon Sunstone mine. Today, it welcomes rockhounds, families, collectors, and crystal lovers who want the unforgettable experience of finding their own gemstones directly from the earth. � High Desert Gems and Minerals +1 What Makes Oregon Sunstone So Special? Oregon Sunstone is a remarkable variety of transparent plagioclase feldspar containing natural metallic copper inclusions. Variations in the quantity, size, shape, and distribution of that copper can produce an astonishing spectrum of color—including clear, champagne, yellow, peach, orange, pink, red, green, and blue-green. Some specimens contain multiple zones of color, creating rare bicolor and tricolor gemstones. � gia +2 Tiny copper platelets can also reflect light from within the crystal, creating the fiery glittering phenomenon known as schiller or aventurescence.
