Sketching a Narrow Street - Light and shadows makes it pop! - Urban sketching tutorial

Perhaps my face, perhaps my watercolour palette, or some close ups of my process! Today's sketch is from the Netherlands. It's a narrow street, and I love how the shadow and light pool along streets like this. The perfect urban sketching, ink and watercolour/watercolor scene to draw! Capturing the line work loosely means the scene comes together quickly, before we go back and add some contrasts and details. I'm using a fountain pen for this sketch, but I'd just as happily use a fine liner :) With our watercolours, we'll focus today on how to capture the light and shadows, varying our shadow colour, washing light into areas, and making deeper contrasts in others. Shadows themselves emphasise the light, and these simple tips will help you get the right shape and feel in these fun street urban sketches!
