In light of this significance, although the prayers are originally independent, the Outer Shrine Prayer followed by the Inner Shrine Prayer are recited as a "complete cycle" (the Outer Shrine Prayer is sometimes written as "Totsumiya Shinzen Norito"). Now, while this prayer is literally dedicated to the deities of the shrine, it is fundamentally different from the prayers recited at the shrine itself. The prayers recited at the shrine are part of a Shinto ritual, completed by purified Shinto priests performing the eight bows and eight hand movements, along with other appropriate actions. From this perspective, some argue that "Shinto prayers should be recited by Shinto priests and not by ordinary people." Certainly, performing the "eight bows and eight clasped hands" without understanding its meaning is disrespectful, and reciting prayers with a casual attitude is also inappropriate. However, as long as one approaches the prayer with respect and gratitude, there is undoubtedly great divine blessing in reciting it. We recommend that you calm your mind and watch and recite this "Shinto Prayer" as if you were sitting before the deity. As usual, this prayer may differ in some parts from the style of prayers you are familiar with. While there are differences in the pronunciation and kanji used for the names of deities depending on the era, sect, and doctrine, this video does not claim that the version used is the "correct" one. In particular, there are differences in the spelling of the divine name/true name of "Amaterasu (Zaiko) Omikami" depending on the shrine and document. The relationship between Amaterasu Omikami and "Tsukisakaki Iwa no Mitama Amasokotsuhime no Mikoto" requires profound knowledge and research (including the interpretation of Seoritsuhime), but since it involves aspects related to the doctrines of various Shinto sects, we will not delve into it here.
