Life of Agony is a hard rock band from Brooklyn, New York. The band was founded in 1989. Music from the early days of the band can be described as a mix of hardcore punk and metal. Newer music from the band is more rock-oriented. The first album was "River Runs Red", which became known in the metal scene, partly due to the efforts of fellow townsmen Biohazard. This was followed by "Ugly" which became a small success in the Netherlands, not yet a top-40 hit. Just before the recording of a new album, drummer Sal Abruscato left the group. He was replaced by Dan Richardson. The new album recorded with the new drummer was titled "Soul Searching Sun". Many fans felt that it no longer sounded like Life of Agony. Keith left the band in 1997. Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe) succeeded him as singer. In 1999 the band broke up for good. An extra album was released with older songs. This album was called "1989-1999". All Life of Agony albums were released by metal record label Roadrunner. After the breakup of the group, all members went their own way. Keith began a solo career, while the other members started new groups (Sal: Supermassiv; Joey: Stereomud and Alan: Among Thieves). In 2003 there were two reunion concerts with all the original members. A recording of these concerts was released on DVD and CD, without the help of a major record label, under the title "River Runs Again". The band had rediscovered the energy of the past and decided to tour together and also start a new record. During their reunion tour, the group also performed in the Netherlands and Belgium. Roadrunner wanted to capitalize on the success of the reunion and decided to release a "Greatest Hits" album. In 2005 their latest album "Broken Valley" was released. In 2007, Alan started the band Spoiler NYC, old skool punk, as a tribute to a friend, Sal Abruscato also starts a new project, MY Mortality, and Joey travels the world with Carnivore. Finally, Keith continues his solo project. Life Of Agony has its roots in the New York hardcore scene. The band started with a style of hardcore, thrash, and heavy metal. The lyrics, the powerful melodies and the intense live performances have combined to make the group touch the sensitive chord of many different people around the world. Over the years, the band has separated itself more and more from the harder stuff. Nowadays Life of Agony doesn't make anything harder than rock anymore, although the older songs are still performed live. Welcome to the official Pinkpop Archive YouTube channel!
