We are made of star stuff: Jocelyn Bell Burnell at TEDxVienna

Jocelyn Bell Burnell is a Visiting Professor in Oxford (UK). She inadvertently discovered pulsars as a graduate student in radio astronomy in Cambridge, opening up a new branch of astrophysics -- work recognised by the award of a Nobel Prize to her supervisor. Subsequently she has worked in many roles in many branches of astronomy, working part-time while raising a family. Increasing the number of women in science is important to her. In her spare time she gardens, listens to choral music, collects poetry with an astronomical theme, and is active in the Quakers (Religious Society of Friends). http://www.tedxvienna.at/   / tedxvienna   In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
