Colorized Version: • Video Macbeth (1948) Director: Orson Welles Screenplay: William Shakespeare, Orson Welles Cast: Orson Welles, Jeanette Nolan, Dan O'Herlihy Genre: Drama, History, War Country: United States Language: English Release Date: September 3, 1948, Italy (Venice Film Festival) Synopsis: After winning a battle, the Scottish general Macbeth encounters three witches who prophesy a legendary future for him: He will ascend the throne of Scotland. Driven by his ambitious wife, Macbeth then murders King Duncan and takes his place. He also has witnesses and those in the know killed. But while the new king is tormented by guilt and memories, Duncan’s son Banquo raises an army against the regicide. Reviews: In William Shakespeare’s time, there were only two kinds of stories. If something bad happened, it was a tragedy. If not, it was a comedy. However, if this story were adapted into a Hollywood film for the first time today, there would be enough evil witches and murders to classify it as a horror story. It is a horror story. It is one of the best horror stories of all time. It is very creepy. This is one of the creepiest movies of all time. It has a great plot. It also features great acting performances. This is one of Orson Welles’ best films—not “Citizen Kane.” That must be one of his worst. This is a great movie. This film is a must-see. It’s better than “Richard III.” written by jacobjohntaylor1 on IMDb.com Lord Macbeth encounters witches who predict his rise to power and ultimately to the throne. Driven by this prophecy and his ambitious and manipulative wife, Macbeth schemes, betrays, and murders to become king. This is Shakespeare at his darkest, most pessimistic, and most terrifying. Orson Welles, who had been a lover of Shakespeare since childhood, made three attempts to bring the Bard to the screen. Each attempt shares the same strengths (ambition, acting prowess, Welles himself, and visual genius) and weaknesses (a tiny budget). Of these three attempts (the other two being “Othello” and “Chimes at Midnight”), “Macbeth” is the least hampered by technical difficulties, even if it is the weakest work overall. Welles used borrowed costumes and unusual locations (such as an abandoned mine) and filmed them in a breathtakingly surreal way that significantly enhances the overall quality. As an adaptation, his “Macbeth” remains very faithful to the spirit of the original, and cuts to the text serve only to make it more cinematic and adapt it to the limited resources. It is thanks to the star and director that the film never feels like a “small” film. Rather, it is inspiring, and traces of his genius can be found in Kurosawa’s version “Throne of Blood,” which was filmed ten years later. A must-see for every film fan. Especially for those in Europe who have access to Wild Side’s beautiful new transfer of the complete 115-minute version. written by OttoVonB on IMDb.com Also known as (AKA) (original title) Macbeth Australia Macbeth Belgium Macbeth (French) Brazil Macbeth (short title) Brazil Macbeth - Reign of Blood Bulgaria Макбет (Bulgarian) Canada Macbeth (English) Canada Macbeth (French) Denmark Macbeth Finland Macbeth Finland Macbeth (Swedish) France Macbeth Germany Macbeth - The King Killer (TV Title) Greece Macveth (transliterated title) Greece Μάκβεθ Hong Kong 金殿逃龍 (Mandarin) Hungary Macbeth India Macbeth (English) Ireland Macbeth (English) Italy Macbeth Japan マクベス(1948) (Japanese) Mexico The Tragedy of Macbeth Peru The Tragedy of Macbeth Poland Makbet Portugal Macbeth Romania Macbeth Spain Macbeth Spain Macbeth (Catalan) Taiwan Macbeth United Kingdom Macbeth United States Macbeth ···················································································· ✘ Website: https://www.artflix.info FOLLOW US! ✘ Twitter - / artflixtv SUPPORT US! ✘ Membership: https://bit.ly/33nGlVm MORE MOVIES! ► Film Noir: https://bit.ly/3yP7UR2 ► Classic Movies: https://bit.ly/2VhJRN2 ► All Playlists: https://bit.ly/2AsmqTR #classicmovies #filmnoir #colorizedmovies ···················································································· COPYRIGHT: All of the films published by us are legally licensed.
