"FADO DA TERRA LENTA" Remo Fernandes

I love the traditional Fado, and I love the great Amália Rodrigues, whose records from my father's collection I grew up to as a kid in Goa, and who will forever remain the fado's undisputed queen. But I have chosen to sing and orchestrate this fado more in keeping with the progressive modern fado movements which I also love, and which perhaps started with Dulce Pontes about three decades ago. To the customary fado instruments, I have added traditional Alentejano instruments such as the accordion, a deep drum playing single hits, besides others. And I've added male and female choirs, a traditional feature of the age-old Alentejano 'Cantares'. But none of these traditional features were added in the traditional way. I dedicate this fado with all my love to the beautiful land, people and cuisine of Alentejo, South Portugal. REMO FERNANDES Porto, Portugal, November 2022.
