Elegant curved hotel scratch built from card in N Gauge
My curved hotel is finished at last! It's taken over 50 hours to make this elegant curved hotel in the classical style, based on the Crescent Hotel in Ilkley. The hotel is made from card and paper, covered in Scalescenes textures. I've used cheap materials throughout, and lovely laser-cut lettering from Scale Model Scenery. I show how I used simple paper to make a tiny pub sign with a border only half a millimetre wide. Chimneys are made from stacks of card glued together with cheap glue and covered in texture. Chimney pots are just bits of cut up cotton bud. The pavement is just card and paper, too. Interspersed in the video is some long-lost audio of Chandwell's Favourite Celebrity, Britney Scroggins, who recorded a radio advert for the hotel in 1993. I really enjoyed making this curved hotel from card. Scratch building from card is a wonderful and cheap way to create your own town scenes whether that is for a model railway layout like Chandwell, or for any other scene such as wargaming or just for the sake of it. I love scratch building with cardboard. I designed the building in Inkscape using textures and glazing from Scalescenes, some laser-cut elements from Scale Model Scenery. =============================================================== Enjoying Chandwell?
