The Morning After (AS) Fell Race - NYD 2025

The Morning After fell race is a New Year’s Day race organised by Mercia Fell Runners in Church Stretton, Shropshire. The route takes in Carding Mill Valley and the northern part of the Long Mynd. Billed as a Shropshire classic, fully marked and beginner-friendly, the eight-kilometre category BS fell race has 274 metres of ascent. However, I logged significantly more ascent at 442 metres, making this a Category AS race with an average ascent of more than 50 metres per kilometre. Overall, this detail makes no difference to my race and would not put me off attending. The more assent, the better in my books. Prior to 2025, the race was last run in 2020, so it is best to check the Mercia Fell Runners site to see if it will run in the coming years. The race is great, well organised, marshalled and in a beautiful part of the country.
