Losses and Efficiencies in a Pump | Centrifugal Pumps | Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics
This lecture discusses various losses (hydraulic losses, mechanical losses and leakage losses) and efficiencies [Manometric Efficiency (๐ผ_๐๐๐๐), Mechanical Efficiency (๐ผ_๐), Volumetric Efficiency (๐ผ_๐ฝ), and Overall Efficiency (๐ผ_๐)] of a centrifugal pump. . A Centrifugal pump is a hydraulic machine which converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy by the use of centrifugal force acting on the fluid. These are the most popular and commonly used type of pumps for the transfer of fluids from a low level to a high level. It is used in places like agriculture, municipal (water and wastewater plants), industry, power plants, etc. A centrifugal pump works on the principle of forced vortex flow which states that when a certain mass of fluid is rotated by an external source of energy, it is thrown away from the central axis of rotation and a centrifugal head is impressed which enables it to rise to a higher level. It is a centrifugal force acting on the fluid that makes it flow within the casing. hence, such pumps are known as centrifugal pumps. (This playlist of Centrifugal Pumps covers the following topics: General classification of pumps, Centrifugal pumps- Classification, theory working, Selection of pumps, Centrifugal head, Work done by impeller, Heads and efficiencies, minimum starting speed, Cavitation in centrifugal pumps). ============================================================================== For notes/articles/PowerPoint presentations, Visit my blog (link is given below).
