Beats, Rhymes & Love feat. Air Fork One

BAM! The 13th official episode of Beats, Rhymes & Love (BRL), the podcast born out of love for music, has arrived and will now share its release Friday with the Entrepreneur Jam Session (UJS). This means that an episode of UJS and an episode of BRL will alternate, or in other words, both podcasts will be released every two weeks. Beats, Rhymes & Love arrives at just the right time because, as conductor Joana Mallwitz so aptly puts it: "The time when we desperately need music, not just as individuals but as a society, is now." The concept of BRL is simple: each episode features a fantastic guest who shares five albums and/or songs, along with the stories behind why these particular albums, songs, and artists made their personal selection. I, too, will share memories, stories, and experiences related to five albums and/or songs. Together, we'll experience the power and magic of music. We feel, as the author Lars Amend so beautifully puts it in his book "Imagine," that music is the only language that every person in the world understands instantly, that in times of crisis it is music, poetry, and novels that offer us comfort and encourage us to continue believing in the good and to recognize the beauty even in the bleakness. Today's episode was recorded as part of the Beatz&Business Vol. 2 event. My guest is none other than Nadim, aka Air Fork One. I've known Nadim for many years, primarily through the Kassel hip-hop event "Mai-Jam" and a vinyl release called "Kein Ende in Sicht" (No End in Sight) by Rano featuring Masta Ace & Spax. I was involved in both projects back when I ran my immergrün store in Kassel. We naturally talk about both of those things, but the conversation goes much deeper than you might initially expect. Our first encounter revolves around vinyl, events, and hip-hop culture, and we quickly arrive at the question of what rap actually does to you when you truly live it. Nadim takes us back to his beginnings, to a time when you really had to want hip-hop. No playlists, no algorithms, but record stores, magazines, and a whole lot of initiative. This "if it's missing, make it yourself" mindset runs through his entire story. From his first beat on cracked software to his own productions, releases, and his own label. Nadim speaks openly about a failed deal with high expectations, about frustration, unpaid work, and the reality behind the dream of a music career. And he explains why he keeps going despite everything. Besides his musical influences, we also get to know his entrepreneurial mindset. Nadim recounts how the idea came about to document the history of rap in Kassel. And Nadim reveals his second great passion: chilies and what has come from them, and what might yet come from them. Here again, the same approach: try things out, learn, improve, and just do it. Nadim also brought along five vinyl records.
