Saving Punky Bowls with Penetrating Epoxy! Turning Problem Wood into Premium Figured Bowls

It’s spring craft show season and my bowl inventory is starting to show some gaps! To fill them, I pulled out a set of rough-turned bowls that had punky (soft) areas in the wood. Instead of scrapping them, I used penetrating epoxy to stabilize the soft spots and firm them up enough to finish turning. These bowls have absolutely amazing figure hidden inside — and after stabilization, they turned into premium, high-end pieces! This video shows my complete process: assessing the punky areas, applying penetrating epoxy, turning, and finishing these rescued bowls. This is a great technique if you have spalted or soft wood that you still want to turn into beautiful, sellable work. If you deal with punky wood, spalted bowls, or need to boost your inventory fast before a show, this one’s for you! Have you ever stabilized punky wood with epoxy? What’s your go-to method?
