I am determined to upload every week to share the sounds of this historic instrument and the wonderful acoustic of St Martin's, where I’m fortunate to be Director of Music and Organist. This organ is over 150 years old and retains its original mechanical (or ‘tracker’) action, which explains why the keys on the upper manual (the Swell) come down with those on the lower (the Great) when I play them. Everything is coupled together to produce a grand sound, the bass played by the feet. TIP: if you hold your phone sideways under your chin, you’ll hear the magnificent William Hill organ in stereo.
