Billy Preston ~ Will It Go Round In Circles 1972 Soul Purrfection Version
Billy Preston is the only American to ever be credited on a Beatles single and was being considered to be the fifth Beatle. Nothing ever came of it since the Beatles were on the verge of breaking up so Billy asked to leave the Apple label and signed with A&M Records. His first album and first single with the new label was "I Wrote A Simple Song" BW "Outa-Space". Radio stations across the nation felt that the B side was the winner and played that instead of the promoted song. Soon marketing changed their focus and began to promote the song which led to Billy's first big hit, "Outa Space" peaked at #2. Billy had always felt that the B side should have been the A side. During the writing sessions, Billy walked in the office of his co-writer Bruce Fisher and complained that "I had a song and no melody" to him. They took that phrase and wrote "Will It Go Round In Circles" and got his very first #1 single on July 7, 1973.
