Keely from Kings College is passionate about education and keen to find out what's involved in running a school so she visits Wymondley Road Primary School in Otara and meets Tone Kolose who helms a vibrant multicultural school of predominantly Maori and Pacific Island students. Tone has been principal of the school for 11 years. He explains his leadership role includes building relationships with the students and their families plus ensuring the curriculum is being delivered by the teaching staff. Another major aspect of his work involves administration encompassing the school property and finances. Tone believes connecting with the students is crucial and part of that is making sure they are achieving as they should be. Keely learns about the testing done within the school to check how students are achieving and gets hands on when she reviews a vocabulary test with a student. Leadership within the school and creating a programme to involve parents and whanau in teaching strategies is all part of Tone's dedication to his role.
