The trick is to selectively sinter the powder – using black ink and UV light – in a rectangular chamber. It is located inside a carriage that slides into the printer. The system is complemented by a powder recovery and loading station. Each component must occupy a precisely defined location within the chamber. To ensure adequate powder sintering quality, the components should constitute approximately 10% of the chamber's volume, which measures 380 x 280 x 380 millimeters. Now we move on to the production department. The carriage must be filled with nylon powder, i.e., polyamide PA 12 and PA 11. The carriage is then installed in the printer, and the operator starts the entire process. A layer of powder is spread using a roller. UV radiation sinters the printed layer of powder. Then another layer is applied, followed by a print, and the entire process repeats itself – layer by layer – with nearly 5,000 layers within the chamber. The printer can operate in a continuous cycle, with human intervention limited to replacing the powder cart. Using tiny glass beads, the surface of the part is blast-cleaned, obtaining the desired roughness and gloss. This process takes place in a sandblasting chamber, also known as a sandblaster. This process can also be performed with the addition of graphite, which gives the product a dark gray color.
