Gospel (Matthew 12:38-42): In the Gospel, some scribes and Pharisees ask Jesus for an extraordinary sign to prove his authority. Jesus responds that no generation will receive any sign other than the sign of Jonah, referring to his death and resurrection. He recalls that the Ninevites were converted by Jonah's preaching and that the Queen of the South recognized Solomon's wisdom, while many remained unmoved. indifferent to the one who was greater than both of them. This passage invites us to recognize the presence of Christ in our lives, to receive his Word with faith, and to respond to the constant call to conversion. These readings remind us that God desires much more than outward gestures of religiosity. He seeks sincere hearts, capable of living justly, practicing mercy, and walking humbly in his presence.
