Traditional Music Weekend, Gormanston, Co. Meath, Ireland 1980
Traditional musicians gather in Gormanston College for a weekend of sessions, concerts, masterclasses and lectures at the Tionól Cheoil. Organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) Tionól Cheoil welcomed over five hundred musicians, singers and dancers to the Franciscan College at Gormanston, County Meath. Members of the four hundred branches of CCÉ represented the four provinces of Ireland, and joined by those who had travelled from Sweden, American, England, France and Florence. The Tionól Cheoil is in its eleveth year, and includes workshops and lectures by well known musicians. That is only one aspect of this weekend however, as the impromptu sessions are the real reason people keep coming back, The big attraction of the weekend was the music.
