Today we celebrate Saint Gregory of Narek (c. 950–1003), Armenian monk, mystic, poet, and Doctor of the Church. Saint Gregory is best known for his spiritual masterpiece, The Book of Lamentations, a profound collection of prayers that express repentance, humility, and total trust in God’s mercy. His writings are so beloved that many Armenians simply call it “Narek.” In 2015, Pope Francis declared him a Doctor of the Church, recognising the depth of his theology and his contribution to Christian spirituality.
