The siding at Treblinka railway station. Scenes of Dantesque horror.

On 22 July 1942, the first train packed full of people from the Warsaw ghetto arrived at the sidings at Treblinka railway station. From then on, throughout the month of August, tens of thousands of people packed into cargo wagons in conditions similar to that of a metro system at rush hour without access to food, toilets and most importantly water, waited here to be taken into the death camp at Treblinka. Whole communities, hundreds of years old, were destroyed, sometimes here at the siding, whilst waiting to be taken into the death camp. Horrendous scenes occured here, as people driven mad by thirst managed to pull themselves through the grates in the wagons in order to try to reach the water stand pipe. In this video I make an attempt to describe the scenes that occured here whilst showing the new monument recently constructed to recall the horrors that occured here.
