Classic TV Themes: Murphy Brown (Stereo)
'Murphy Brown' (1988) had no regular theme; for years a different song accompanied each week's opening titles. So what's a tv theme collector to do? Wait until an item in the paper appears noting that tonight's episode will use an actual 'Murphy Brown' theme. And there it was: 'Like the Whole World's Watching' by show composer Steve Dorff and John Bettis. Used as far as we can tell on just one episode. Even so, it's really the second theme for the show. The 'oo-wah' music heard over the end credits is the official 'Main Title'. 'Murphy Brown' ran for ten years on CBS, with an unsuccessful attempt at a revival in 2018. Star Candice Bergen's multiple Emmys were among the 18 the show was given. 00:00 Opening titles. 'Like the Whole World's Watching', performed by Take 6, a Grammy-winning a cappella gospel group. Heard in 'Funnies Girl' (episode 18, season one). 00:51 End credits. 'Murphy Brown (Main Title)', used during the earlier years. 01:16 End credits, version two. This jazzy instrumental (also by Dorff) was heard in later seasons.
