2007 BALLITO DESTRUCTIVE OCEAN STORM – SALT ROCK HOTEL AND SALT ROCK BEACH 2017 REVIEW-PART 3
Severely destructive 2007 Ballito, KZN marine storm left Salt Rock Hotel infrastructure and buildings on the shoreline adjacent to it in a badly damaged state. From some of this, the hotel had still not recover ten years on as conflict with environmentalists so far prevented it from rebuilding a lot of what was destroyed in that storm. We are not sure what the outcome of this will be. Our journey here is to show you what the situation was at that time and what it is now in 2017. We take a tour along the beach and we also visit the famous lookout tower on Salt Rock. This tower was repaired as well as most of the tidal pools around it and recently there was again some damge to it when a extreme tide hit on the 12th of March 2017. We compare the 2007 situation to 2017 ten years on. We use photos that were taken at that time and compare them side by side with where we stand today. We tie our narrative as commentary to portrays and discuss for this vlog issue. Why did we have this massive backline erosion of the beach and could it have been prevented? I take you on tour with me and I have decided to spend adequate time at every location, so that all can be devoted to history. Therefore, I have made this as a 5 part VLOG series of which this is the first one. In this specific video I take you with me to Salt Rock Hotel and to Salt Rock Beach. Me and my family walked on all the Ballito beaches during that time and I took a lot of photos. Many of these include them in these videos. Combined with narratives, they should help to pin this event to history.
