Voices in Contemporary Art: Marisol
On Thursday, July 11, 2024, a conversation between artist Alex Da Corte, art historian Delia Solomons, and Charles Balbach Chief Curator Cathleen Chaffee in celebration of "Marisol: A Retrospective" took place in the Lipsey Auditorium. Delve into a discussion of Marisol’s transformative bequest of her estate to the Buffalo AKG in 2016 and her works’ extraordinary relevance to contemporary life and art. "Marisol: A Retrospective" largely draws on the significant collection of artworks Marisol kept in her personal possession and left to the Buffalo AKG upon her death, in a historic and transformative bequest. By examining and contextualizing her work over its long arc from the 1950s to the early 2000s, this internationally touring retrospective, the most comprehensive survey of her work ever assembled, demonstrates the extraordinary relevance of Marisol’s unique vision of culture and society.
