The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced Thursday sanctions against a senior Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood official, along with three other individuals and three entities, for allegedly providing material support to Hamas, which the department describes as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. “The Trump administration will continue to relentlessly pursue those who support Hamas and their financiers, whether they operate under the guise of charities, corporations, or clandestine financial networks,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, adding that “anyone who supports Hamas will be exposed, sanctioned, and held accountable.” The statement claimed the sanctions expose a multi-layered network used by Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups and Hamas-run front organizations to raise funds across borders using charities and clandestine banking networks. It noted that the measures complement sanctions imposed on January 21 and March 12, 2026, in coordination with the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It alleged that he supported fundraising campaigns for organizations previously sanctioned by the United States, including Palestine Waqf and Hayat Yolu, due to their ties to Hamas.
