Power Blade (NES) Playthrough
A playthrough of Taito's 1991 action-platformer for the NES, Power Blade. This video shows two runs through the game. The first, played on normal, begins at 2:13. The second, played on expert, begins at 35:33. It is the year 2199, and alien terrorists have attacked, taking down New Earth's "Master Computer." The computer needs to be reset to bring everything back online, but that has to be done manually from the system's heavily guarded core. Enter Nova, the peroxide blond, boomerang-chucking bodybuilder in charge of security. It's up to him to break through the system's defenses, gain entry to the core, and get everything back up and running. Power Blade, a heavily retooled version of Power Blazer for the Famicom, was primed to become one of the biggest NES hits of 1991. It reviewed well, it made the cover of the April 1991 issue of Nintendo Power, and it was featured in PlayChoice-10 arcade cabinets. Unfortunately, despite those advantages, Power Blade never really seemed to catch on. It was, however, an excellent game that deserved the praise that was heaped on it. Natsume left their fingerprints all over this one: the graphics and music consistently impress, the controls are dialed in perfectly, and the action remains fast and fun the entire way through. Like most of Natsume's NES platformers, Power Blade feels like, and matches the quality of, Konami's best. This is a game that belongs in every NES fan's collection. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
