Lena Horne & Teddy Wilson - Out of Nowhere (Columbia Records 1941)
"Out of Nowhere" is a song with music and lyrics by Johnny Greene & Edward Heyman. This video was created in memory of the great Lena Horne! Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010) was an American dancer, actress, singer, and civil rights activist. Horne's career spanned over 70 years, appearing in film, television, and theater. Horne joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of 16 and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood. Horne advocated for human rights and took part in the March on Washington in August 1963. Later she returned to her roots as a nightclub performer and continued to work on television, while releasing well-received record albums. She announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one-woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than 300 performances on Broadway. She then toured the country in the show, earning numerous awards and accolades. Horne continued recording and performing sporadically into the 1990s, retreating from the public eye in 2000. Lena's accompanied by Emmett Berry (trumpet), Benny Morton (trombone), Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet), Teddy Wilson (piano), Johnny Williams (bass), and J.C. Heard (drums) Recorded in New York City, September 16, 1941. (Columbia Records) You came to me from out of nowhere You took my heart and found it free Wonderful dreams, wonderful schemes from nowhere Made every hour sweet as a flower to me And if you should go back to your nowhere Leaving me with a memory I'll always wait for your return out of nowhere Hoping you'll bring your love to me Hoping you'll bring your love to me
