We both lost a parent when we were young. That was just the beginning. Years later – I lost my husband. Then I got cancer. She got diagnosed with heart failure first. Then, years into treatment, she lost her father. Grief has visited us at every stage of life. And we've both wondered: did all this loss change our bodies? Make us more vulnerable to chronic illness?
