Sharpening with the Tormek SVD-185 Gouge Jig
The SVD-185 gouge jig moves the axis of rotation away from the axis of the tool at an angle. This makes the end of the tool move in an ellipse relative to the grindstone surface. The result on turning tools is a grind that wraps around the side of the tool in a very controlled way. This video shows the fundamentals of using the jig, and the versatility of gouges ground this way.
