Is This the Ultimate Vintage Swiss Army Knife? - Holy Grail LNF 246k Model #victorinox

Today on Bay Area Knives, I get to share what may be the rarest Victorinox Swiss Army Knife that has ever passed through my collection—the legendary 1947-1952 Victorinox Huntsman Small (Model 246k). This isn't just another vintage Swiss Army Knife. For many Victorinox collectors, this is considered a true Holy Grail because it combines several incredibly rare features that only existed during a very short period of Victorinox history. In this video we'll take an up-close look at: ✅ The famous "ARMEE SUISSE" tang stamp used from approximately 1947-1952. ✅ The incredibly uncommon Long Nail File (LNF) mounted on the back spring. ✅ Why collectors search for years to find one of these. ✅ How this knife became the ancestor of today's modern Huntsman. ✅ The history behind one of the rarest 84mm Swiss Army Knives Victorinox ever produced. One of my favorite features is the Long Nail File. Unlike most Victorinox tools that pivot on the main brass pins, this nail file is mounted on its own tiny brass pin directly into the aluminum liner. Because of this unusual construction, many examples broke over the decades, making complete survivors exceptionally scarce today. The main blade carries the historic ARMEE SUISSE / Victoria Switzerland Stainless tang stamp, allowing collectors to date the knife to the immediate post-World War II era. Holding a knife that has survived nearly eight decades is pretty amazing. Even more interesting is that this model represents an important step in Victorinox history. The 84mm Huntsman Small served as the predecessor to the Huntsman that millions of people know today. This knife captures Victorinox during one of its biggest periods of design evolution as the company transitioned materials and manufacturing techniques. Because these knives were only produced for a relatively short time and many examples were heavily used, complete originals have become incredibly difficult to find. Depending on condition, these knives often sell for several hundred dollars whenever one appears on the collector's market. Finding one at all is exciting. Finding one that's complete...that's something special. I love sharing unusual vintage knives like this because they remind us that there are still incredible treasures hiding in collections, estate sales, flea markets, garage sales, and forgotten knife lots.
