Vite che sanno di Vangelo. Don Bedemore, dalla Nigeria a Mori nel segno della fraternità

"It was very difficult for me, but God, who sends his disciples, was also with me." This simple yet intense testimony comes from Father Bedemore Ezeagu, a Nigerian priest from the Diocese of Ekwulobia, featured in the new episode of the video series "Lives that Sense the Gospel," produced by the Diocese of Trento (Catechesis Service and Communications Service). Having arrived in Italy two years ago to study Canon Law in Venice, Father Bedemore, 35, now lives in Mori, welcomed by the parish priest, Father Nicola Belli, and the communities of Mori, Besagno, and the Valle di Gresta Pastoral Unit. Over time, this presence has become familiar and precious: at the rectory, he also shares his daily life with the young assistant priest, Father Filippo Zanetti, while in the parishes he is now known and appreciated by everyone, from children to the elderly. The episode recounts his human and spiritual journey: the impact of an unknown language, the radical change in environment and culture, but also the discovery of a concrete brotherhood. "When I arrived, I didn't understand a word," he says, "but the people and the community welcomed me very well, patiently encouraging me." The guiding thread is the missionary Gospel of Matthew: "Jesus sent the disciples even though they weren't professionals. My hope is based on a person who sent me," confides Father Bedemore, acknowledging: "God has been with me in the people I met, among the people, with my parish priest." The profound meaning of hospitality emerges in Father Nicola's words: "Bishop Lauro told me: 'I want to give him the experience of feeling at home.'" And Mori truly became a home for the young African priest, winning him over and letting himself be won over by his ability to create authentic relationships.
