DRAMMA ALL'ITALIANA. Il caso Alberto Olivo.

Milan, May 1903. Alberto Olivo, a respected accountant and a man of impeccable image, says his wife Ernestina has left after yet another argument. For days, he continues his life as if nothing had happened. But on May 24th, in the port of Genoa, a floating suitcase reveals the truth: inside is the dismembered body of a woman. Witnesses link the suitcase to Olivo: he is the one who transported it to the sea. When summoned, he admits to dismembering the body, but maintains that his wife died accidentally during a fight. The trial becomes a national sensation. The prosecution fails to prove murder: Olivo is convicted only of contempt and concealment of a corpse. He is sentenced to twelve days in prison. A sentence that scandalizes Italy and transforms the case into one of the most controversial in the country's judicial history.
